LifeJar is a family of jar apps (Good Things, Memories, Pocket Money, Swear Jar and others to come). This page explains what information the apps handle, why, and the choices you have. It covers all of them.
The short version: your jars live on your phone. You do not need an account. If you make an account, we back up your jars to our server so you can change phone or share a jar. We do not sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps and sites.
Information we handle
- On your phone only (no account). What you put in your jars: titles, notes, amounts, names you type (for example who said a swear word), and your settings such as sound and reminder time. This stays on your phone and we never see it.
- Account details. If you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name, your email address (Apple may give a private relay address) and an identifier from them. If you create an account with an email and password we keep your name, your email and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, never the password itself. We email a one-time code to confirm your address, and another if you reset your password; codes are stored only in scrambled form and expire after 30 minutes. We also record when you last signed in and the app version you use.
- Backed-up jars (account only). When you have an account, your jars and their entries are stored on our server: titles, notes, amounts and coin mixes, who and what word you chose to record, dates, and the order and look of things. Photos and voice clips, in apps that use them, are stored in private cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) and are only reachable through your account.
- Shared jars. If you invite someone to a jar, the people in that jar can see what is in it, including who added each entry and any names you typed. Only share a jar with people you are happy to show it to.
- Subscriptions and purchases. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google and our subscription provider, RevenueCat, which tells our server which extras are active and until when. We never see your payment details.
- Reminders. Daily and "on this day" reminders are scheduled on your phone as local notifications. We do not need your location, contacts or advertising identifier.
- Technical information. Each request to our server includes the app version and phone type. Our server keeps short logs of requests and errors so we can fix problems.
How we use it
- To create your account, keep you signed in and know which account a request comes from.
- To back up your jars, restore them on a new phone and sync them between your devices and the people you share with.
- To send the emails you ask for (confirmation and reset codes) and reply to your support messages.
- To fix problems and keep the service reliable.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only with the services that help us run LifeJar, and only what each needs: our hosting provider and Cloudflare (hosting, network and file storage), our email provider (codes and support replies), Apple or Google (if you use their sign-in, under their own privacy policies), and RevenueCat with Apple or Google (subscriptions). We may also share information where the law requires it.
The money jars
The Pocket Money and Swear Jar apps keep a record of amounts that you enter. They do not hold, move or pay out real money, and we do not connect to any bank or payment account.
How long we keep it
- Things you delete go to "Recently deleted" for 30 days so you can put them back, then are removed from our server.
- Your account and backed-up jars are kept until you delete your account. See how to delete your account; we remove the data within 30 days, and database backups expire within 30 days after that.
- Server logs are kept for a short time and do not contain the content of your jars.
Your choices
- Use the apps without an account: nothing leaves your phone.
- Turn reminders and sound off in Settings, or in your phone's settings.
- Ask to see, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you from the support page.
Children
Children can use the apps. Without an account, everything stays on the phone and we collect nothing about them. Accounts, backup, sharing and subscriptions are for people 13 and over: sign-up asks you to confirm your age, and under-13s should have a parent or guardian use the account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, or you are a parent who wants a child's information seen or deleted, tell us on the support page and we will remove it.
Security
Traffic to our server is encrypted, passwords are hashed, sign-in tokens are kept in your phone's secure storage, and files are stored privately. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect what you give us.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change matters. Questions? Email [email protected] or use the support page.
